This gathering convened by California Community Foundation, Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles, Southern California Grantmakers, & Youth Philanthropy Connect, was designed to develop, enhance, and catalyze youth & next gen philanthropy in our region and among participants. Attendees ranged greatly in experience, from those already deeply engaged in grantmaking to those just looking to get started! YPC was excited to provide this event for participants to connect, share experiences, and learn together!

Ahmir Bates

Social Justice Learning Institute
Ahmir Bates is a junior and youth leader at Augustus F. Hawkins High School in Los Angeles, CA and the Social Justice Learning Institute based in Inglewood. Ahmir is an active participant in a county-wide coalition to end the criminalization of boys and men of color called the Brothers, Sons, Selves, Coalition, and he has participated in a number of townhalls and school board meetings to advocate for restorative justice practices. On his campus, Ahmir is an active participant in the Black Male Youth Academy, where he co-leads classroom discussions about race, class, gender, education, and social change. In his spare time, Ahmir likes to play the drums, listen to underground hip-hop music, and play football.
